At E.ON Ruhrgas, communication over the Internet plays an important role. More than 40 national and international websites have been implemented in the last four years using Open Text Web Solutions. Countless applications and content sources which have been smoothly integrated with the WCMS, complete the company's extensive Web presence. Image databases, news servers or interactive transport queries provide innovative services which are used extensively.
E.ON Ruhrgas has been part of E.ON since 2003 and is responsible for the group's pan European natural gas business. All online media were changed over to the new corporate design when the new double logo was introduced in 2004. Thanks to the separation of layout and content, the re-designing process was just as fast and efficient as the daily local content maintenance using the 'red dots'.
The Intranet is where E.ON Ruhrgas took full advantage of the Open Text WCMS capabilities. Over 2,500 members of staff are provided with personalised information and an increasing number of applications after secure access with a single password (single sign-on). In this way, sensitive content is protected from unauthorised access and the relevance of the information displayed to each member of staff is increased. In order to further improve the internal work processes, the SAP Enterprise Portal and WCMS are linked to each other. The SAP Certified Open Text Web Solutions 'Personalisation iView' provides the bridge between the two systems. "By taking this step we are combining existing systems to create a central business process platform which unites content, technology and applications perfectly. This means that we can make better use of our resources", said Dirk Bauer, Head of Online Communications at E.ON Ruhrgas.
