Mayne Group Limited

Open Text Web Solutions enables flexibility for Mayne’s businesses to quickly add, change and remove content with ease

About

Mayne Group Limited is an Australian based healthcare company listed on the Australian Stock Exchange. The company has an international specialty pharmaceuticals business and domestic operations in diagnostic services (pathology, diagnostic imaging and medical centres), pharmacy and health-related consumer products.

Mayne’s pharmaceuticals business manufactures injectable and oral pharmaceutcals for distribution to more than 50 countries, across five continents. In Australia, Mayne’s businesses have market leading positions and a strong track record of helping Australians to improve their health. The Group’s sales revenue was more than $A 4 billion in the 2004 financial year.

Challenge

Mayne was looking to implement a new content management system that could meet its changing stakeholder communication requirements. In addition, the company wanted to reduce the level of IT support required to provide timely and accurate information on the group website.

Prior to implementing Open Text Web Solutions, Mayne’s complex Web site structure had nearly 400 pages and a fixed number of site sections and levels. Mayne’s single workflow for content approval was sometimes unnecessary and time consuming, which often led to delays in posting information to the site. The challenge for Mayne was to find a simple and flexible product solution that would give businesses more autonomy to manage content.

Solution

Open Text Web Solutions was selected because of its flexibility and capacity to reduce reliance on Mayne’s IT department for Web site maintenance. The proposed solution would improve Mayne’s Web site as an effective communications tool by:

  • Providing a system that business users find easy to understand and use
  • Creating various templates for business users that help to improve brand and design consistency, navigation and business ownership of content
  • Enabling Mayne’s IT department to change or add new website sections, levels and content management usersFacilitating multiple workflows for content approval
  • Permitting Mayne to interact with a wide range of key stakeholders through subscription forms and personalized sections

Mayne’s General Manager Corporate Relations, Mr Larry Hamson, said, “We evaluated a number of vendors prior to choosing Open Text Web Solutions.  Due to the size and diversity of our businesses, it was critical that the solution was flexible enough to adapt to changes in our business while at the same time providing enough corporate control to ensure our branding and corporate messages were consistent across our portfolio.”

“We have been pleased with the implementation of Open Text Web Solutions and importantly, each of the content creators in our business units enjoy the speed with which they can submit changes to the website and have those changes approved,” Mr Hamson said.

Results

  • More control has been given back to Mayne’s content creators in Australia and around the world so that the site can be updated quickly
  • Business units are no longer reliant on Mayne’s IT department for routine content maintenance
  • Turnaround time for changing and approving content has decreased, leading to accurate and timely access to information by Mayne’s key stakeholders.
  • Open Text Web Solutions has enabled Mayne to more efficiently roll out new sections, sites and features resulting in less duplication of effort and expense while providing a dynamic and information rich Web presence.

Mayne commissioned Open Text Web Solutions for six additional business Web sites following successful project delivery of the group Web site. The other Web sites are:
